It's only $13 bucks and is the predominant issue with 1997 Chevy Trucks and the brakes not working especially if you reverse and blinker lights do work.

The top on both sides has a thick yellowish gunk inside that I think may be corrosion, so it's possible that's the problem...? Ask a question usually answered in minutes!
My problem was that my lower two not work sometimes, but my third brake would always work fine. Have checked the fuses and bulbs all good. Hope it helps someone else out there.
