Canon Powershot A620 Flash Not Working

What to do short of tossing the camera (or selling on ebay)? it is such a great camera and i almost threw it away! I suspect that the aperture ring is stuck also. Here we are about 9 months later and the exact same problem! check over here

Too much light is shining directly into the camera, or is being reflected off the subject. Just spend 10 minutes running the flash and its just like it never had issues. To no avail, the camera flex wire/cable connecting the LCD and the board can no longer be attached firmly. What can i do? Despite pointing their European helpline to this forum, they are trying to tell me that Canon Europe is a different company to Canon USA and that the Powershot A620 is a Up until recently it has worked perfectly fine.Now it won't take pictures consistently.
