It seems to be a fatigue issue with the cable, especially if the camera owner uses the zoom feature quite often. Glad Canon was responsive to your needs. Wonderful. After some attempts I held the camera in front of the air con heater outlet for a while then had success after a few more tries. I have a Canon S3 IS. Suddenly and mysteriously it had displayed black screen when attempting to capture snaps and flashing orange/yellow light above LCD. S2 1S had the blank screen problem (it's done it before but always cured itself after a couple of 'on-off' panic cycles. For cameras other than Canon, set the camera so that it will take the longest possible exposure, usually 15 seconds (15").
The shutter clicks, takes the picture, but just a black LCD It seems like if u see icons on lcd then sorry to tell u i think ur CCD is gone Canon Camera Shutter Stuck But I hit it against the desk while taking a picture and whoo-hoo it's working now! I didn't have success with tapping it on a table but then I tried my hand and beat it a lot harder and tada! Unfortunately that has long since expired. But compared with the previous series it seems that is much less frequent. http://basetelecom.net/canon-powershot/canon-powershot-display-not-working.html I found another post online that suggests this is a hardening of the oil on the shutter.
My problem seems slightly different -- the LCD is completely black when I'm on Auto (and several other modes), but in are some modes the camera works fine (like Custom, Video).When Canon Lcd Screen Black Damn.. When I brought it down to the customer service center, they said it's a shutter problem because they don't see the shutter opening and closing.

I was immediately able to see the screen.It was a bit confusing, however, since the first pictures to review were all black when the lens was stuck. Power the camera back on in ‘record' (ie. I have a S2 IS Canon, and your stuck shutter fix works like a charm. Also turn off any features that may be a power drain to the batteries.
