At this point, instead of calling your camera manufacturer and making a service request, you may want to investigate whether your flash's hot shoe (the part where the flash sits on I opened the flash as you said but laid the camera down on it's display so I was able to apply the WD40 from the under side directly into the joint. I am glad I was able to figure out a simpler solution!You are right; it does seem to be a bit of a design flaw. heck, didn't even think about it cause I never use it... This is where the caution is to be used. Is it possible to move the flash manually as described? Seemed a bit of a risk putting WD40 near a camera but I was very careful and sparing with my use of WD40.
