In your defense, I understood immediately that we would have to be careful in how we apply the WD40. and the flash would pop up all the time.... I am using a standard 'large' paperclip that can be found at most office supply stores in the United States. Had to do this more than once.It ended up that one of the hooks that holds the flash down had a small bur on it. See the illustration for an approximate size comparison to the flash shoe. I recommend using the least amount possible. i took pics yesterday when i noticed the flash wasnt coming up... I finally took the plunge and did the WD40 trick, worked beautifully, no repair shop or being separated from my beloved camera, hurray!
