Thanks for taking time out to share this information with us all. I used WD40 and applied with a cotton bud to minimize the possibility of spray going somewhere I didn't want it. I did mention that WD-40 can be used for water displacement (which you also mentioned in your comment).Your idea to use machine oil is another way this might work (though I Canon Camera Flash Not Working Dave there are few (if any) user sevicable parts in modern digital cameras.

replied4 years ago. I never see one, that would tell me the flash is ready to go. You solution worked for my EOS 400D too! It sounds as though this is a more major problem.
I used the compressed air on it and it worked but only for a few times before switching back to not opening.
